On Tuesday 15th July 2025, Melksham Oak Community School (part of The White Horse Federation Trust) welcomed students from Years 7 to 10, along with Sixth Form students from both Devizes School and Melksham Oak Sixth Form to its annual Next Steps Fair—a dynamic and engaging event designed to help young people explore their future education, pathways and career options.

Organised and led by Head of Careers Education, Ceri Tranter, the event brought together a wide range of contributor from across the education, public service, and business sectors. The fair featured interactive games, prizes, and informative sessions, all aimed at encouraging students to ask questions, explore opportunities, and gain valuable insights into life beyond school.

There were over 60 stands booked for the event, exhibitors included representatives from universities such as Bath Spa, Falmouth, and Royal Holloway; employers like AB Dynamics, Chemring, and GXO; and organisations including the British Army, Wiltshire Police, and the Royal Air Force. Many other apprenticeship providers, colleges, and specialist institutions also took part, offering students a broad view of the many pathways available to them.

Students were issued interactive cards in their house colours and challenged to engage in conversations with at least five exhibitors, earning house points and prizes for their participation. The event was well-attended and well-received, with students showing curiosity and enthusiasm throughout the day.

Ceri Tranter, Head of Careers Education commented:

"It was a pleasure to see students from both Melksham and Devizes engaging so positively with the opportunities on offer to enhance their decisions for their Next Steps. Building knowledge of opportunities for student next stage is vital to ensure positive outcomes. The range of contributors and the energy in the room made for a fantastic day of learning and discovery. I can’t thank everyone involved enough for their time, energy, and efforts to inspire and motivate our students for their future pathways.”

The school also extended its thanks to four fabulous Year 12 student helpers who supported the smooth running of the event, as well as to all the contributors who gave their time and expertise.

Dr Dan Nicholls, CEO of The White Horse Federation, said:

"This event is a clear example of the dedication and commitment our staff show every day. Their professionalism and creativity in providing meaningful experiences continues to shape the aspirations

of our students and inspire lives."
