Students at Melksham Oak Community School enjoyed a day dedicated to exploring their future ambitions during the school's annual Next Steps Fair, held on 30 June.
The interactive event brought together a wide range of organisations, including employers, apprenticeship providers, businesses, further and higher education institutions, as well as clubs and societies, all with a shared goal of informing, educating and inspiring students about the opportunities available to them after school.
Throughout the day, students from Years 7 to 10, alongside members of the Sixth Form and SEND students, took part in dedicated sessions where they were able to engage directly with exhibitors. By rotating around the stands, asking questions and taking part in activities, students gained valuable insights into a variety of career and education pathways.
To encourage meaningful conversations, students used interactive challenge cards and collected points through discussions with exhibitors as part of a friendly house points competition. The initiative helped students develop their communication skills while learning more about potential future careers, training opportunities and educational routes.
The event showcased the strength of partnerships between the school and the wider community, with exhibitors sharing their expertise, experiences and advice with students at every stage of their educational journey. Staff had spent time preparing students in advance through tutor sessions focused on questioning techniques and professional interactions, helping them make the most of the experience.
