Work experience at Melksham Oak
- Category: For Students
At Melksham Oak Community School we value Work Experience as an integral part of the Careers and Work Related Learning programme. Every Year 10 pupil will spend time in the world of work, allowing them a unique opportunity to enhance their employability skills.
Work Experience is where the pupil carries out a particular job or range of tasks, under supervision, within the workplace. As an integral part of the Key Stage 4 curriculum, each pupil at Melksham Oak Community School undertakes a short period of Work Experience annually during term 6. The aim of this activity is to enable pupils to gain valuable experience of the world of work and to demonstrate their skills and abilities whilst working within a team of adults in a real working environment.
Work Experience is regarded as a valuable contribution to the preparation for the world of work by assisting in one or more of these:
- developing economic and enterprise skills,
- careers education and planning for life after Key Stage 4,
- general maturity, personal and social development.
Students are able to arrange their own placement or select a placement from our data base of employers offering work experience placements. All placements must be checked for Health and Safety purposes, paperwork for this is available from year 10 tutors.
For further information and support in setting up a placement, please contact the tutor or Mrs. Dimond, who is based in the School Finance office.
