Year 11 Temporarily Closed - A Message from Alan Henderson

14 October 2020

UPDATE - 20th October:

We have become aware of three further confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Year 11. We have conducted a thorough risk assessment with Wiltshire Council Public Health team /
Public Health England / Department of Education to identify close contacts and any additional actions required. The parents / carers of pupils and / or staff members identified as
close contacts will be notified in a separate communication.

The guidance from Public Health England is that Year 11 must extend their period of self-isolation up to and including Tuesday 27th October.

Whilst I fully understand this will cause anxiety amongst the Melksham Oak community, I can assure you all necessary steps have being taken to minimise risk to others, to cause the least disruption possible and to support all those affected. In the event your child develops symptoms please see information below on action to take and how to prevent any further spread.

I appreciate your support on this matter.

Yours sincerely,

Mr Alan Henderson

As you may already be aware, we have taken the precaution of closing year 11 to students until Thursday 22nd October following a confirmed case of COVID-19 in the year group.

I have written to all parents, carers, and staff with more detailed advice about what to do when the situation changes.

However, I understand that parents and carers may still have concerns and questions. In this case, please direct any questions to our dedicated chat facility in the bottom left hand corner of the school website:

I would also like to ask you please not to contact the school office, or come into school without an appointment. It is important to limit the number of visitors in the school wherever possible to ensure social distancing, and we appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

We plan to continue supporting each student during this period, and further communication will follow regarding this. In the meantime, if your child is one of those being asked to stay at home, they can access their timetabled lessons via the Blended Learning Platform here:

The measure of closing year 11 until 22nd October is a precautionary one, and we look forward to welcoming every year 11 student back to school after the half term break!
