By Alfie Farmer, 11, Ash Webb, 11 and Kacey Cleverley, 12

Enthusiastic Year 7 Melksham Oak Community School students interviewed Ben from The Melksham News about his life, getting into journalism and his best ever stories. “It was very exciting meeting Ben because I had never met a journalist before!” said Alfie Farmer, 11.

The professional journalist then helped the students develop their own ideas for articles in a workshop session, which taught them how to find and write inspirational stories for the real-life news media.

Kacey Cleverley, 12, said: “Ben helped my group to think of different ideas for our writing – we had been struggling but now we’re really pleased with our ideas.”

Melksham Oak Community School is a high-achieving, aspirational school.

Principal Alan Henderson said: “The students loved Ben’s visit. We want to provide enriching experiences to bring their learning to life. They are showing huge enthusiasm and talent.”

These young journalists are looking forward to writing more captivating articles, both for the local media and for their school website.

“All the journalism club are really excited about our writing,” said Ash Webb, 11.
