Melksham Oak Parents & Students

COVID-19 School Status

19th April 2020

I’d like to really thank all parents and carers for their continued support and patience during these last 4 weeks, your resilience and support for the White Horse Federation schools has been truly remarkable and made our job so much easier. The comments of kindness and displays of generosity I have personally received and seen on social media from our families have shown absolute solidarity in this time of need.

As a trust of 32 schools, we’re committed to keeping our 13,000 pupils and students engaged in learning during this period. We recognise the pressures parents and carers have to balance at home. To ease the strain, our colleagues have worked tirelessly to develop a home learning provision that is accommodating to both your child and you.

This coming week, you’ll receive more information about a range of new learning resources we’re making available to you. Staff across the White Horse Federation have worked tirelessly to create these resources in such a small amount of time. It’s a truly remarkable achievement. These same staff will continue to be on standby next week to offer their assistance as we do our very best to maintain an excellent provision of education.

I hope you are as grateful for all their hard work as I am, and show your appreciation by engaging with the materials.

There continues to be a lot of speculation in the news about the continued closure of schools. Despite everything you hear from reporters, you should know that the White Horse Federation liaises directly with the Department for Education. Therefore, we will be the first to know about any changes in policy. As soon as we are made aware of any changes, please rest assured that we will pass on this information on to you immediately. The reality though is that we should start to think of schools returning in weeks rather than days and as such our home learning materials will continue to be produced for as long as they are needed. Until then, we will continue to remain partially open to critical key working families, and to those vulnerable children in need of childcare.

In the meantime I wish you continued good health as you stay safe, and please stay at home.

Yours sincerely,

Dr Nicholas Capstick OBE

CEO The White Horse Federation
