'Those who fail to learn from the lessons of history are comdemned to repeat its mistakes'
The Department believes strongly that there has never been a more important time to study History. We are lively, energetic and fully convinced of the value of a subject that is not only academically challenging, but also crucial for an understanding of one another, our heritage and the world we live in today.
In addition, we are fortunate that the popularity of History in the media and as a leisure pursuit is greater than ever. Our aim is to encourage the skills that the study of History requires – the ability to weigh evidence; to structure arguments; to evaluate significance, to reach balanced judgements – and ultimately to pass on our love of the subject in the wide breadth of topics, themes and depth studies we teach from the prehistoric to the modern day.
